Every year the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences hosts the Governor Awards, where they reward certain individuals with honorary Oscars. One of the special Oscars is the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, which is obviously given to those who have contributed to many causes. On November 16th 2013, the recipient of that Oscar is the very famous and formerly notorious actress Angelina Jolie. That specific Oscar includes winners such as Paul Newman, Oprah Winfrey and Elizabeth Taylor. That being said, the Jean Hersholt Academy award may be one of the most prestigious statues to receive but it is nothing compared to the other recognitions that Angelina would receive for her non-stop humanitarian work. She not only has used her fame as a way to put a spotlight on the plight of refugees, but she has used much of her own money to make the world a better place. She is always on the move to meet with world leaders to convince them to do what they can to help. She has been to very dangerous war zones such as Darfur, and Syria to continue to raise awareness. Jolie has put her money where her mouth is by adopting two more less fortunate children while building schools, hospitals, animal sanctuaries, and homes. Angelina was promoted from a goodwill ambassador to Special Envoy in 2012 giving her access to diplomatic officials and meetings. She uses that access to contribute to official gatherings, and attend international trials for war criminals. She was given an honorary dame hood in 2014 by Queen Elizabeth the Second for her fight against sexual violence in war zones. Her work around the world has continued even during personal hardship such as another dissolved marriage, preventative cancer scares, and losing her beloved mom to cancer.
