Jean Lafitte was a famous pirate and smuggler in the Gulf of Mexico. He was involved in the War of 1812, also known as the Unnecessary Battle, that happened between the United States of America and Great Britain. There are numerous stories about Jean Lafitte’s life as a pirate and a hero; there is no credible evidence or undiscovered truth about Lafitte’s specific events; however, it is valid that he was an important figure in the Unnecessary Battle. Despite defending New Orleans from British attacks and becoming a hero, Lafitte worked as a criminal who lived under the shadow of the law his entire life. The objective of this research is to reveal the involvement of Jean Lafitte in the War of 1812, which brought him to become a hero in Louisiana.
