As Lori, Jeannette, Brian, and Maureen arrive in New York, one by one, each talk about they love it in New York and are excited for their futures. Like when Jeannette arrives, she says “ My heart started to race, and my palms grew damp”(Walls p245). This tells us that she is very nervous, but excited for what is to come. Since she usually acted like this on an adventure and it is a journey she travelled by herself and is trying to change herself, anyone can assume that this is one of her greatest adventures. As each child of the Wall’s family reaches New York, the journey they took and the journeys they will take while in New York can be seen as one of the greatest adventures that they took. Throughout The Glass Castle, you can a motif from the use of the word adventure. It can be seen as an excuse from the parents to keep their children distracted, but to the children each adventure they took is seen as the best or worst moments of their lives. That just by using one word they were able to keep faith in one another and to get past each terrible counter that the family faced.
