Jennifer Senkowitz's Influence On The Classroom

There I was, 5th period, 11th grade, half way through my high school junior year in my American government class. Jennifer Senkowitz was my teacher. She was a middle-aged woman, around 5 feet 7 inches tall, had blond curly hair, blue eyes, and a high-pitched voice. She was a very sweet teacher and would do just about anything for my class. Mrs. Senkowitz also had a very decorative classroom that many students loved. There were Hillary Clinton pictures surrounding her desk, donkey pictures all over the walls, and CNN News on the TV just about every time I would walk into her classroom. Also, most the days as I walked into her room all I could ever hear her discussing was how in love she was with Obama. Never once did think Mrs. Senkowitz was a little biased, but finally I had my moment of realization that day.

“She really was biased, the pictures, her comments, the classroom environment, it all made sense now, she’s a Democrat and only wanted to teach us from her stand point.” This was not a good situation at all. I realized by Mrs. Senkowitz being biased she was not allowing my class to have an educational understanding of all political views. She made a clear point that being a Democrat was right and nothing else was. I remember looking around thinking, “wow even my classmates look mad at what she said to me.” I was right. I even heard some of them say they were going to the head office on her. After all the commotion was over I had a flashback. I remembered a previous student who also had conflicting political views compared to hers. That student also received an unfair response. I began to think to myself again, “Why didn’t I ever realize how biased she was from when Mitchell asked her a question?” I guess sometimes in life you don’t realize things until they happen to
