Jim Jones Research Paper

Jim Jones did a lot of good in his life (Merlot). He worked with people of all different backgrounds to make their life better and wanted to solve social problems. He took the racist stereotype of a white man and created a new idea of a united racial group. Jim Jones also did a lot of bad in his life. Jim Jones was the craziest religious fanatic to live during the 20th century because he brainwashed most of his followers, abused his power, and led the largest mass murder for that decade in a single event.

Although he did do a lot of good things for the community he still did more bad than good. He held almost a thousand people hostage and killed 900 of them out of his own fear for the future.
Others also say the members in the cult were not victims and that they should be blamed for what happened. A lot of people who moved to Guyana did not realize the circumstances. Most of them were just trying to get to their utopia. Although, Jim Jones did not force anyone to join the cult, they all went there through their own choices. Many of the members who escaped Guyana had horrific stories of drug usage Some didn’t realize what was going on, but some were so blinded by their love for Jim Jones they followed him everywhere.
In 1190, 150 Jews got attacked while holding down a castle (Historyofyork.org.uk). Instead of surrendering to the Christians, they killed themselves. They knew their fate would either end by getting killed by an angry mob, or committing suicide. This historic event reminded me of the Jonestown massacre.
