Jim Thorpe was born on May 28, 1887 in Indian territory which is now Oklahoma. Jim had an Irish father named Hiram and a Sac and Fox Native American mother named Charlotte Vieux. He went to a school called Carlisle Indian Industrial School with his twin brother. He would always run away from school, so his father sent him to an Native American boarding school. Then in 1953, Jim suffered heart failure for the third time in Lomita, California. Jim Thorpe died on March 28, 1953, at the age of 65.

Well, here is a list of why Jim Thorpe is important to the history of the U.S. He was a Native American that fought his way into the Olympics and won two gold medals while competing in two of the hardest competitions in the Olympics. he broke several records, inspired many people, one of the best athletes of the century, in the football hall of fame, has a college football award named after him, and he even has a town named after him in Pennsylvania.
As you can probably tell by reading this paper Jim Thorpe was truly an amazing inspiration to the people who were being racially excluded. He was very important to the history of the US because he showed that no matter what color skin you have you can still do anything you want to do if you put your heart into it. He clearly did that because nowadays people call Jim Thorpe one of the best athletes to ever live. He fought through all of the doubters and the haters and still thrived in the sports
