John C. Calhoun was considered to be the most influential South Carolinian politician. He supported slavery during the antebellum period of the united states. John C. Calhoun helped America go into war with Britain. He also formed the second bank of America. He did not even want to go to war with Mexico in the Mexican-American war. John C. Calhoun was one of the many war hawks. He hoped to keep slavery amongst America. John C. Calhoun wrote a bonus bill for roads and canals. Byrnes first started his career in 1908 as a prosecuting attorney. After that Byrnes was a U.S. congress man and stayed for 14 years and left in 1925. Byrnes was considered to be the "Assistant President" to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was also chosen to be the Director of Economic Stabilization after World War II. In 1945 Byrnes headed back to Washington to be the Secretary of state for President Truman. Truman trusted Byrnes enough to accompany him to The Potsdam Conference.
