When John first came to high school, he came as a learner. He would barely look up, even in the middle of a tempest. When he did, it was only to say “Jeez”, shake his head and get right back to work. Nothing deterred him from the assignment in front of him. If he did not understand something, he would ask for help. He wanted to learn. He wanted to do well. In his freshman year he wrote, “I want to be a person that someone will remember. A hardworking outgoing person who never gave up”. He has worked hard all four years. He is unstoppable.

His whole being lights up when talking about trucks. This past year, students were asked to write something about themselves and John wrote about a truck he just purchased, “I ended up pulling the gas engine, transmission, fuel lines, transfer case, drive shafts and everything that was from the gas engine. So then from there I swapped in my Built diesel engine transmission and the gas tank, driveshafts, radiator, everything. Im almost done building that truck. All I have to do is bleed the air out of the brake lines and start it up.” This was complete gibberish to me but struck me with the realization that John exists in an entirely different space than I do.
