Whenever I think of original country music Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and Jimmie Rodgers are the first few names that come to mind. Johnny Cash was symbolic for country music following tradition yet being a rebellious outlaw at the same time. Johnny Cash was one who didn’t like to follow the rules and was arrested seven different times. Two of his song Folsom Prison (1968) and San Quentin (1969) were songs that related to his trips to prison. Johnny Cash was one of those artist who always stayed relevant within the times he lived. He talked about subjects that other artists and T.V. shows were unwilling to talk about, such as divorce or murder.
“Carrie Rivers Cash scraped together enough money so that Johnny could take singing lessons. Cash was only in his early teens…but after just three lessons his teacher, enthralled with Cash's already unique singing style, told him to stop taking lessons and to never deviate from his natural voice”. Anita Carter actually released that song a few months prior to Johnny Cash adding a Mexican style with mariachi horns. Johnny Cash would play the guitar with the two other trumpet players. His version of this song was an immediate hit, and was number one for country seven continuous weeks. That song even mad the pop Top 20 charts.
