In The Impact of Science on Myth, Joseph Campbell highlights the growing schism between mythology and science as time passes and the results of science phasing out mythology, replacing all of its contributions in the modern era. To begin with, Campbell comments on an interaction between a youngster and a mother as both of them represent two different point of views – religion and science. From there he goes over a plethora of comparisons between these two topics and discusses how mythology came to have less influence in peoples’ lives. For example, the idea ceased that the Earth was flat and Dantes’ Divine Comedy about the “mighty mountain” on the other side of the world made less sense as explorers such as Columbus reached the other side.
