The Joy Luck Club In the “Joy Luck Club”, there were many culture collision between Chinese and American culture, especially between Chinese mothers and their American daughters. One of the daughters, Waverly Jong, experienced a lot of cultural collision with her mother, Lindo Jong, more specifically when she became a chess prodigy. For example, Waverly thinks of herself as a victim and her mother as her opponent. She expresses this sentiment by describing her mother like this, “ I could see the yellow lights from our flat like two tiger’s eyes in the night.” Waverly also describes herself as “ remains of a large fish, its fleshy head still connected to bones swimming
