Mercy
“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” (Matthew 5:7) This scripture passage has been a reminder to me throughout my childhood and especially during this Jubilee Year of Mercy, to always act with compassion and care for others. I remember that people are always in need regardless of where I might be and I am always capable of helping others. I have learned that God expects me to act in a merciful manner and in response God will also show mercy to me. The strongest example of Mercy that I witnessed in my life was during my older cousin’s diagnosis and experience with Cancer. I was only ten years old when he was diagnosed and I was entirely unaware of Cancer and the implications that Cancer has on its victims. I did not understand that good people could be diagnosed with Cancer and that many good people die from Cancer each day. I also did not understand the intense treatments that Cancer patients go through each day and that kids younger than I am are fighting Cancer throughout the world. I personally witnessed his entire life and demeanor change. He had always been a nice and normal kid

I learned that sometimes we will find disappointment in our lives but our faith in God will give us the strength to turn this disappointment into a positive experience. My cousin had incredible amounts of strength during his Cancer experience and never once lost faith. He was able to begin his own Cancer Charity while he was still sick and raise money for other kids that were also battling Cancer. He worked extremely hard to raise this money and was very successful. He even organized a team at the Kids Walk for Kids with Cancer Annual Walk at Sloan Kettering Children’s Hospital. I have always been and remain inspired by my cousin’s ability to help others while he was still in need and his willingness to follow in the footsteps of
