The idea that someone is different from when they are with people vs. when they are alone is a common one being that there is the stereotyped mask people use when in public. The mask used is a figurative mask but the actions it brings could be devious and self serving bringing nothing but a continuous cycle of pain and sorrow to those around them. There are countless stories that bring up the idea that the difference between a person’s public and private self could be harmful, in the case of “Julius Caesar” the character Caius Cassius is the best example of the difference between one's private vs. public self. Cassius is a devious character who tries to use Brutus, sadly for Cassius his own plan didn’t work out leading to all their ends.
