Antony’s ethos is stronger than Brutus’ ethos because he manipulate the plebeians by saying he is their equal and Brutus’ speech do not make sense. Brutus is giving his speech, he is saying he is honorable and that is why the plebeians should believe him, “Believe me for mine honor, and have respect to mine honor that you may believe”(III.ii.15-17). Brutus’ ethos is weak because he is just saying he is honorable and the plebeians should believe him for that. If someone is honorable it does not that mean people should believe him? There is no proof that Brutus is honorable and just because Brutus is honorable, Brutus can just kill Caesar. Brutus is giving his speech at Caesar’s funeral. Brutus’ speech of pathos,“As Caesar loved me, I weep for him. As he was fortunate, I rejoice at it. As he was valiant, I honor him. But, as he was ambitious, I slew him. There is tears for his love, joy for his fortune, and honor for his valor, and death for his ambition”(III.ii.26-30).Brutus is saying that he is sad that Caesar died and he is happy for Caesar's fortunate (wealth and liked by people). Brutus also said that Caesar is brave and he honors him for being courageous but as Caesar is ambitious he killed him. Brutus is saying that Caesar is ambitious and that is why he killed Caesar, but is Caesar ambitious? Brutus do not have proof that Caesar is ambitious and he killed Caesar which make it a lie.
