As Mary Piper once said, “Adolescence is when girls experience social pressure to put aside their authentic selves and to display a small portion of their gifts.” Mary Piper’s quote shows that society can pressure people to hide themselves in fear that they will be judged, or not meet people’s expectations. Nowadays the public demands more from women than they do men.
One main pressure society puts out is that girls need to look a certain way to be considered beautiful. Also, if girls are self conscious because they aren’t “pretty” enough, there are multiple products that advertisements convince them to buy to make them feel better about themselves.
