For instance, if a person is simply put in to prison after having been convicted he/she loses all the reasons to live a crime free life and the prison environment turn out to be a recipe that introduces the inmate to more criminal elements while serving their time. On the contrary, if a person is put through a punishment that is a community based correction and gives the individual exposure to average citizens and his/her family.
