Before I was born the beginning of the Byzantine empire started in A.D 324. My Great-Great-Great Grandfather-in-law Constantine I was the first christian Emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire. He believed that he came to power by the Christian God. When Constantine died Christianity became the main religion. He named our capital, Constantinople. The early stages of the Empire between 324-640 was the first great period during the reign of Justinian I in 527. He reconquered most of our territory from the Western Roman Empire. He reclaimed parts of Italy, Rome, Ravenna, North Africa, Sicily, and Southern Spain between 535-540. Justinian also built Constantinople into a glorious city with churches, palaces, and public arenas.
