In this second text, the Israelites have been wandering through the desert for some time. During their journey to the Promised Land, the Israelites had been complaining to Moses about their desire to have meat and bread like they did in Egypt. God hears their grumbling and says to Moses, “I am going to rain down bread from heaven for you. Each day the people are to go out and gather their daily portion” (v. 4a). The Lord then instructs Moses to have the people gather twice as much bread on the sixth day of the week in preparation for the Sabbath. Moses and Aaron then decided to go and share the information that God has disclosed to Moses with the people.
