The novel, Siddhartha, written by Herman Hesse is mainly known as a search for intangible wisdom. In other words, it is an adventure of finding himself and figuring out who he wants to become. The book begins with the main character, “Siddhartha”. He is intelligent, handsome, young boy, and has great potential to become a prince. The community and peers around him know that he is bound for success for the reason that he has overcome all rituals and wisdom at an amazingly early age. His father, Śuddhodana, is a religious leader and an admired member of the community. Siddhartha seems to be following his father's path. However, Siddhartha is not satisfied and feels that the people around him have nothing left to teach him. Govinda is so impressed and chooses to join the community of monks, while Siddhartha is once again unhappy, and the two friends part ways. Siddhartha travels to a new town and is welcomed by a girl named Kamala. Kamala tells Siddhartha that he needs money, clothes, and shoes, which is why he begins working for a wealthy merchant. For once in his life, Siddhartha is delighted with his life. Eventually, Siddhartha's wealth becomes too much too handle for him, so he storms out of his house one day, and does not return. Later, he finds a ferryman and asks to become an apprentice. This ferryman accepts Siddhartha and he grows wiser and wiser, and finally reaches “enlightenment”.
