I first started karate when I was eight years old. My aunty bought me a karate uniform to get out more instead of staying home and only interact with my family. I was very excited putting it on for the first time but also nervous when I first stepped in to take my first class because there was a lot of people who came up to introduce themselves to me. After that my instructor started class.
I was new to everything so it was different that sitting in front of the TV, we did a lot of things such as running and different types of exercises. Then we broke off into groups where I got to work with another instructor on breaking …show more content…
After two weeks the head instructor gave me my nickname “Sting” because I always loved to hit things and I always tried to hit hard. My journey began to start and create my own road to success.
Years went on and I was faced with different obstacles of can’t be able to do things then being able to accomplish them, facing my fears to do it, and to go out of my comfort zone. Soon I developed some confidence and started to go out and talk to people. It was different and it felt good to finally step up and do something I couldn’t do.
I became a first striped black belt then a second striped black belt. As soon as I was sixteen, I tested for my adult black belt and I got it. I also tested for my weapon at the time the fans. Every time I tested I built even more courage to go out and to perform better than the last time. It was an learning experience to step up to something I don’t do. Pretty soon I was out to do demonstrations and talk to more people. I got to do things other people didn’t even attempt doing at our school such as a double fan form, testing for my weapons during a promotion test, first ever second stripe black belt to pass the entire test while going up against the guys during test day. Everything was a learning experience to help me come out more and make my own road to be more successful. In the end I am grateful that I got to do karate because I came out of the experience as an different
