For traditionalists it is expected to have a nuclear family with two parents, two kids and a dog, moving towards baby boomers there was a higher coveting of children and the beginning disintegration of the nuclear family (Generational, n.d.). For Generation X kids born between 1965 and 1980, women began to work more and thus born the first “day care” generation and dual-income families and finally to where we are now Generation Y born between 1981 and 2000, children often have merged families where they are often coddled and micro managed (Generational, n.d.).
With such differing view on subject from family life and education and work it can be easy to wonder why each generation generally has a similar view and approach to a specific topic. Now that we understand what the differences between each generations is, can it be addressed the reason as to why each generation carries the traits they do. With this being said this generation was privy to many hard times but was followed by prosperity later on (Generational, n.d.). With this being taken into account it can be better understood as to why the generation is said to have a strong sense of loyalty and respect towards authority. A contrast to the traditionalist generation in this aspect would be Generation Y or Millennials. The Millennials grew up in a time of a child focused world where children are severely coddles and protected from the “evils” of life, they are also living through a time of terrorist attacks and economic expansion (Generational, n.d.). Taking some of these factors of influence into consideration it can be better understood why they are the most tech-savvy, enthusiastic and are said to have difficulty problem solving on their own but at the same time greatly enjoy a sense of community and oneness with others. With knowledge of the events that shaped each generation it can be understood why the generations often clash and disagree on various subject matters that may be brought to the surface.
