Karl Anderson Jr. was born on August 9, 1959. He was born and raised on Long Island, New York. As a toddler, he was a model appearing on Lucky Charms and toilet paper. Kors’ mother is Jewish and his father was of Swedish decent. At the age of 5, his parents had a divorce. His mother remarries and changes his last name to Kors, while she lets him pick his first. Karl Anderson Jr. changes to Michael Kors. In the 1970’s Michael moved to New York City in the 1970’s to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology, only to drop out after two semesters. After dropping out, he was hired at Lothar’s, a French boutique, where he designed and merchandised his first fashion collection. In 2010, his company has reached $1 billion in retail sales and continues to enlarge his business. Kors makes sure that he is capable of dressing everyone, including plus-size. Kors loves making women happy by seeing them feel confident in the clothes they wear. Although, Kors married Lance La Pere, shortly after gay marriage became legal.
