Katczinsky resourcefulness is a significant trait who keeps him and others alive during the war. For example, in chapter 3, Katczinsky had given a young soldier some haricot beans from a bucket half full of beef and beans. Kat always helps others and shares what he gets. Since Kat knows how to work his way around for items, he comes useful to Paul and others. Next, Paul and everyone were having trouble sleeping, so Kat went out and took Haie with him. Half an hour later, Kat and Haie came back with with arms full of hay for everyone to use. This shows how Kat always know’s where to go to get anything that is needed.
