In the book, A Tale of Two Cities, it is 1775 in France, and the townspeople are unhappy because they are being taxed and starved to death which leads to the French Revolution. This is a story of how a man, his daughter, and her husband lived through these hard times. They faced treacherous travels, several trials, prison, and deaths. Somehow they managed to live and live a fairly satisfying life. At the beginning of this book, the businessman, known as Mr. Lorry, is on a mission to bring the French doctor, Manette, back to London so he can live in peace with his daughter. When Marquise is killed, Lorry has a hard time finding out who this new Marquise would be. The next in line for power would be Charles, but he did not want to take his place. When Charles finds out that his former servant was threatened to be killed he knew he had to do something, so he traveled to Paris to try and save him. By the time he reaches France, he becomes a prisoner and is headed to the guillotine. Luckily, Manette and Lucie hear about this, and with a lot of help from Manette, he is found innocent. Even though the French Revolution is taking place, everything seems happy again with Charles and his new family, that is until Charles is arrested for the second time. When Doctor Manette tries to intervene this time, it will not work because Ernest Defarge has found a letter, written by Manette, condemning Charles to death. This was written when Doctor Manette was enclosed in the Bastille. Charles Darnay is to be executed by the guillotine, but his dear friend Sydney Carton, who looks almost identical to Charles, sneaks into prison and after a few tricks and disguises, he takes Charles’ place.
