The Kentucky Derby—An Eventful Piece of American History In American sports, which two-minute event is deemed the most exciting? The Kentucky Derby, popularly called the Run for the Roses, takes the winner approximately two minutes to go around the track. It features up to 20 three-year-old thoroughbreds that will race 1.25 miles in hopes of cultivating fame (History.com editors). Thousands of spectators crowd the stands to witness America’s most renowned and longest continually held race.
