1. Discuss the types of head trauma that might be expected from a motor vehicle accident. What might cause cerebral swelling?
Types of head injuries that may occur from motor vehicle accidents include hematoma, hemorrhage, concussion, edema, skull fractures, and diffuse axonal injury (1). Of these, the ones in particular that can cause cerebral swelling include hemorrhages (specifically, intracerebral hemorrhages in which brain tissues bleed), edema (which literally means swelling), diffuse axonal injuries (where damage to the brain cells can lead to swelling) (1).
2. What are the normal values for urine output and sodium in males and females? What specific conditions are responsible for increased and decreased sodium levels and what are the physiologic consequences?
The normal values for urine output for both males and females are between 800-2000 milliliters (2). The normal values for sodium levels for both males and females are between 135-145 …show more content…
What is granulocytopenia? How do normal values compare? What does this condition suggest?

Granulocytopenia is a disorder in which one has a decreased granulocyte count (12). Typical white blood cell counts range from 4,500 to 10,000 cells, with granulocytes ranging from 2,640 to 7,400 (13). Having less white blood cells in general suggests a weakened immune system.
6. Is the central line related to the yeast infection? Describe the role of Candida albicans in catheter related infections. What is the most probable source of the C. albicans?
Elora’s central line did develop a yeast infection as C. albicans commonly grows when a central venous catheter is used (14). Furthermore, C. albicans is mostly developed in those with a low white blood cell count, those who have undergone chemotherapy, and those who have received immune system medications – all of which Elora has had happen to her as well
