In the film version of Witi Ihmaera’s novel, “Whale Rider”, the director, Niki Caro, often dwells on many poignant moments. These key moments have resonated with people in New Zealand, mainly the Maori people, however it has not achieved success worldwide. This means that most Maori people can relate to the key moments, however different audiences from different backgrounds and cultures will relate to some key moments in dissimilar ways.
