To measure math achievement, the examiner administered the KeyMath3. The scores reported below are percentiles, subtest and cluster standard scores (X = 100 and SD = 15), 90% confidence intervals for subtests and 95% confidence intervals for area clusters. The examiner based the norms on Kael’s age of 11 years 3 months.

The Basic Concept Cluster consists of five subtests: Numeration, Algebra, Geometry, Measurement, and Data Analysis and Probability. On the first subtest, Numeration, Kael scored very superior to his grade level, greater than or equal to an individual in the tenth grade. This subtest encompasses whole numbers and rational numbers as well as understanding fractions, decimals, and percentages which showed Kael understands these concepts well above his grade level. However, the advance numeration concepts of exponents and square roots presented more difficultly simply because these concepts are grade his grade level. On the second subtest, Algebra, Kael again scored very superior to his grade level. This subtest covers topics such as sorting, classifying and ordering by a variety of …show more content…
First, the Basic Concepts and Operations provided a standard score difference of 19 points. Second, the Basic Concepts and Applications showed a standard score difference of 17 points. And last, the Operations and Applications displayed a standard score difference of 2 points. When comparing Kael’s subtest standard scores, he performed consistently between Operations and Applications but shows a higher aptitude in Basic Concepts. As a result of the standard score for the Total Test equaling 131, Kael falls within the Very Superior range. Given a 95% confidence interval, when tested on like items, 95 out of 100 times Kael’s score will fall within the range of 121 – 129. Kael’s score places him in the 98th percentile, meaning that, in the Total Test, Kael scored as well as or better than 98% of same-grade peers tested in his normative
