Kramer Mr. Robbins ELA 8, Hour 6 5 May 2024 Rhetoric Speech AOL Of The Appeal of Khan Academy to Accelerate Learning in Math and Science We all know that smart kid, who when asked how they acquired their knowledge, they name a myriad of websites such as IXL or Membean as the method for their acquired intelligence. Well, I will focus on one of those websites in particular, Khan, for its ability to help accelerate learning at Prairie Star Middle. Khan Academy should be implemented at Prairie Star as a learning tool, load loosener, and way to boost test scores. First, Prairie should implement Khan Academy as a learning tool in classrooms. Moreover, it can loosen the load on teachers. For example, instead of teachers having to repeatedly teach content, they can instead just tell them to watch the video on Khan Academy and that if they have any questions, then they can just walk up and ask. Nevertheless, they can utilize Khan Academy as homework/practice and a way to have plenty of practice problems and that can be done while the smart ones can move on and the stragglers can be given extra help. Consequently, these allow the teacher to have extra time to grade tests, help stragglers, and spend more time with family. Lastly, there are multiple studies that show Khan Academy boosts test scores. According to an in-house study where they partnered with Long Beach Unified School District, it was found that students who used Khan Academy the recommended amount of time per week scored 0.2 standard deviation units higher on tests, even accounting for socioeconomic factors and linguistic ability.
