In the article Kids and Chores: All Work and No Pay?, written by Jeff D. Opdyke, he explores the idea of whether kids should receive pay for common household chores. Throughout the article the author looks for the philosophy that defines if a child should receive pay for completing household chores. He explains the scenario through many examples in his life and his friends lives. After much thought and consideration, the author draws the conclusion that pay for a select few chores is highly beneficial, but paying for all chores often has a negative effect on one’s children. Throughout the article the author does a great job of explaining how he and other parents have handled this situation. He starts with his own upbringing and how he was …show more content…
He encourages parents to join him to help solve their problem at home. His tone also carries through to his style that is example based. From the examples, he draws conclusions that help guide him to the philosophy that he believes is the most beneficial for him and his children. The realness of the author builds trust between the reader and author and makes it seem as if the reader and the author are working together to formulate their own answer, instead of a higher power forcing their thoughts on the reader. This draws in the audience and helps the author guide the audience to his answer and the problem without forcing it on the reader. In conclusion, the author did a great job of using the rhetorical appeals to stimulate an emotional response from the parents. Without this tactic, the essay wouldn’t of have the same impact as it has on the readers. In this article the author solves his own dilemma and gives guidance to parents facing the same problem without forcing them to think the same way as he does.
