Gandhi was a primary leader to a peaceful movement for India’s freedom from British colonialists. He was assassinated on January 30th, 1948 by Nathuram Godse, who was a Hindu extremist. After learning through Gandhi’s works, Martin Luther King Jr. led the peaceful Civil Rights movement in America. In 1959, Martin Luther King Jr. visited india and laid a wreath on the site of Gandhi’s cremation. Martin Luther King Jr. followed in Gandhi’s steps, unfortunately until the end, because he was assassinated three years after The Voting Rights Act was signed by President Lyndon Johnson.
