Kit Carson

My name is Christopher Houston Carson and many people know me as an explorer, folk hero and military leader. A lot of people refer to me as Kit Carson and I was born in Madison County, Kentucky on December 24, 1809, which was obviously Christmas Eve! I have 10 siblings and having that many siblings made it to where I was never alone and I always had someone to talk to or hang out with. My parents names are Lindsey Carson and Rebecca Carson (formally Robinson) and they gave us the best life that they possibly could. Since they had so many children, money was scarce and we had to rely on each other for what we needed since we couldn’t afford a lot of the resources necessary. When I

I had to help out my family in any way that I could and that made it to where I was unable to attend school and get my education. I was upset by that because it was something that I held a lot of value to, but I understood what my role had become with my family. I obtained the nickname Kit because ever since I was little people always called me that and it just stuck. Growing up, I craved adventure and I always loved to participate in the next best thing. Right away we clashed because he wanted to get rid of the Indians and for me I had a special bond with them so I didn't want that to happen. I did eventually accept the terms that he went by because I knew that I signed up for this and that I needed to be loyal to my leader. In 1864 I was involved in the Battle of Adobe Walls on the Texas Panhandle and our mission was to stop the uprising and to get it to where it would never happen again. I was going along with it because I was very upset about the Massacre at Sand Creek where over 400 men, women and children were killed. When we were fighting the Navajo, there were homes burned and crops destroyed as well as livestock killed. In 1865, I was promoted to brigadier general and I moved to Colorado where I was appointed commander of Fort Garland. One of my biggest accomplishments there was negotiating a peace treaty with the Utes during that time. I was done with the Indian rebellion and my health was declining and I just wanted to live a
