Kobe Bryant is considered one of the best basketball players of all time. In 1996, when he joined the NBA everyone thought he would be good, but not all star good. Kobe Bryant has even been compared to the great Michael Jordan several times. Kobe exceeded his coach’s expectations many times. One time was in 2006 when he scored a career-high 81 points in a game against the Toronto Raptors. He came in second place in highest scoring in a game, about 19 points behind NBA basketball player Wilt Chamberlain.

Kobe Bryant was born on August 23, 1978, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was named after a Japanese Steakhouse. Kobe Bryant started playing basketball at three years old. Kobe has two sisters Shaya, and Sharia, both older than him. Kobe Bryant’s parents are Joe “Jellybean” Bryant (Dad), and Pam Jean Bryant (Mom). Kobe’s dad Joe “Jellybean,” Bryant, played in the NBA from 1975-83. Joe “Jellybean” Bryant was released from the Houston Rockets, but no team wanted him. Joe thought his basketball career was over until he saw the Italian league in Rieti, Italy. Pam and Joe talked about it and finally decided it was a good decision.
