Bryant’s speech was very casual. It was a special occasion speech, addressing his retirement and his time with the Lakers. His voice control at times was good, at other times was very shaky. He was very emotional, and looked as if he was going to cry many times. He also just got done with the basketball game so he was winded, tired, and sweating while he gave the speech. It did fit the moment though, because it was about the end of his basketball career, and he was playing basketball to get him to that physical state. I have seen him do other speeches where he used bigger, harder to understand words, but you could tell that he wanted all of his audience regardless of age or education to be able to understand him fully. One of my favorite moments was at the end of the speech he said, “Mamba out!”(Bryant, 2016), and dropped the microphone. His nickname is the Black Mamba so it felt like a tribute to all of his fans.
