Baden Masenthin Mrs. Christie Advanced English 9 3 May 2024 Harrison Bergeron Literally Précis Award-winning author Kurt Vonnegut explores the idea that a lack of individuality creates an inhuman society through his short story “Harrison Bergeron,” originally published in October of 1961. The story is set in a futuristic dystopian society where everyone is equal due to government-mandated equality through handicapping, and follows the life of 14 year Harrison Bergeron who is the only person able to defy his handicaps (Vonnegut). Likewise, Vonnegut uses story structure to illustrate the theme in three main sections: the first section starting in the living room of Harrison’s parents, and allowing the reader to view the various handicaps placed
