In order to achieve my knowledge and practice through continual improvement, the main way that I do this is through long term working experience. When engaged in daily practice, I am exposed to constant new experiences in relation to the changing group of residents that I care for and their changing presentation. For example, I am currently nursing a resident who is living with oesophageal cancer. I am a confident user of technology and benefit from the advantages daily in my working life, as opposed to the years in which businesses were reliant on paper records. When my workplace introduced a Person Centred Software tool to be used by all of the care staff, I observed that some of the workers were uncomfortable with this, struggled to navigate the program and wanted to continue using paper, although this was not an option. The majority of people liked the program once they had grasped the basics, and the staff who were initially dismissive are now generally happy with using the system, except for the periods when the Internet connection has reduced performance. I have personally found the Person Centred Software positively transformative and would never want to return to paper. In my employment, I did once witness an experienced nurse leave his job, because he was unable or unwilling to adapt to using an electronic medication system. I felt that this was a great loss to the company, but equally it can also potentially be problematic when staff are adverse to
