The challenges they faced in the movie La Haine is basically no different than the ones we have been faced with in our past and on the daily basis. They suffer from poverty stricken, drug infested, housing projects in France, just as we do in the United States. The police brutality that they face is no different from ours. I recall in the movie the interrogation process was very unethical. However, in New York City back in the late 90s some police officers took a plunger stick to Louima a Haitian immigrant man’s rectum until his insides wore torn apart. And not to forget the death of Eric Garner that didn’t happen too long ago for selling lose cigarettes on the street corner. Every day in America, we are faced with similar situations.
