Everyone has heard of McDonald's and Old MacDonald Had a Farm, but not many acknowledge the legendary Lady Susan Agnes (Bernard) Macdonald. Lady Agnes Macdonald, one of the many mothers of confederation, was a cunning country-building lady who loved writing in her diary. She started writing dedicatedly after Canada's first Dominion Day, which was on July 1st, 1867. Interestingly, she was also the wife of the Father of Confederation, Sir John A. Macdonald. Susan Agnes Bernard, a Baroness and writer, born on the 24th of August 1836, was a Mother of Confederation, a diarist, and second wife to the Father of Confederation and Canada’s first Prime Minister Sir John A. Macdonald was an interesting individual, Lady Agnes was debatably more intriguing. Lady Agnes Macdonald lived for over 84 years, outliving both of her parents. She was born on the 24th of August 1836 in Spanish Town, Jamaica. She died in Eastbourne, England on the 5th of September. Her mother and father Theodora and Thomas Bernard were aged 68 and 82. She also did a lot of journaling and diary-writing. Susan started writing in her diary after Canada's first Dominion Day. She enjoyed documenting her travels around the world and her opinions on conferences. She was also very devoted to religion; she started going to an Anglican church soon after being married to her husband. It is said that she spent a lot of time attending church-related activities. Susan Agnes was a very interesting person once she looked
