I am a member of the Liberal Arts Honors Program. To give back, I help our advisors host info sessions for prospective high school students. I help answer questions and be an example of what college life is like for a LAH student. LAH is the best community I have been a part of since coming to UT. I do not think my college experience so far would have been as smooth without it. I find real joy in helping high school students apply to this program, so they can find the same community I did my freshman year. This program has given me so many wonderful opportunities, including introducing me to SEAL, that I hope I can share with new underclassmen. In addition, I have recently been hired by LAH as a writing fellow, so next year I will also be able to give back by assisting younger LAH students to become better …show more content…
I am not even sure UT was on my list of college choices and being a history major would not have been on my radar. I was highly involved in theatre in high school, and my junior and senior years, I wanted to go to college for stage management. I dedicated the majority of my time to theatre, fully planning to make it my career later on. However, halfway through my senior year, I went through a rough patch when I was not sure if I wanted to dedicate my life to theatre. I did not know if I was going to be able to keep up with the lifestyle changes required in the field, and I was not sure I loved it as much as I thought I did. Becoming a teacher was something that had been in the back of my mind for a while, and I had always been passionate about history. When I did a little research on programs at different schools, including UT, I realized I wanted to get into history and education. Sometimes when I look back, I definitely miss theatre, but I am even more excited for the new road I have put myself on, and I cannot wait to see where life takes
