La Cucaracha, a comic strip created by Lalo Alcarez, depicts a white man's attempts to promote an English-only foundation. English-only foundations advocate the certification of English as the official language, and are often claimed to be based on necessity. This claim of necessity refers to the immigrants who decided to not learn the primary/official language. The comic begins with the white man calling out to two men of color, letting them know that he wants an English-only environment and asking them to sign a petition. One of the men of color protested and began to walk away, but was brought back almost immediately by the white man’s argument. The colored man defended his original position, and then leaves the white man.
