I am elated to have conducted an interview with my former supervisor Mr. Lamar Coleman. I have known Lamar for 7 years in counting. I met him in 2008 my freshmen year at Florida A&M University. At that time I was very timid and refused to speak to anyone at the time. I remember having an RA on my floor and came to a conclusion that I wanted to become an RA as well. There was a flyer in my dormitory Gibbs Hall, which outlined all the qualifications you need to become an RA and the application process. You had to have a certain G.P.A and at least 30 credit hours. I was upset because I was only a freshman, but I was so focused on becoming an RA I took 15 credit hours in the fall and spring semester. Lamar Coleman is native of Connecticut. He has several brothers and sisters. I can only imagine that he such a delightful role model to his siblings as he is to me. Lamar attended Hampton University (Hampton, VA), which is a HBCU! He earned his Arts degree in English Middle/Secondary Education. He started his career as an English teacher at a secondary level.
I believe he loved being an English teacher, but I felt his heart was in student affairs (Residential Life and Housing). The only way he could achieve his dreams in student affairs was to obtain a Masters degree.
