In 1656 Velázquez painted Las Meninas. In the painting Las Meninas, I think that Velázquez was trying to portray that the princess had a lot of attendants. He also might have been trying to portray that King Philip IV was trying to making sure that his daughter was well cared for and that she had people to help her. I think Picasso was trying to portray that the princess had somebody to help her, but the attendants don’t get much attention a lot of the time because the attendant only has 3 colors painted on her while the princess has 9 different colors painted on her.
The two Las Meninas are similar because they both have a princess who is being helped by at least one attendant. Also the princess and the attendant that is helping her are wearing dresses in both of the paintings that they painted. Both of the painting had the princess wearing a red thing (I don’t know what they are called, sorry) in their hair and on their shirt.

Also, the Las Meninas that Velázquez painted he added himself as one of the people who are just standing around in the room in the painting. Picasso’s painting had multiple colors on the princess’s face, he painted the colors green, blue, black, and white while Velázquez’s painted the princess’s face white or tan. The Las Meninas that Velázquez painted had a detailed background of the a room that the princess and the attendants were in, but Picasso’s version of the painting he had a black background with a dark brown floor. The painting that Velázquez painted had a dog laying down on the floor but Picasso’s painting only had the princess and the attendant, no animals. Another thing that is different between the two paintings is that Velázquez’s painting had the princess wearing a white dress while picasso’s had the princess wearing a tan/light
