Spanish Institutions in Colonial Mexico
The Spanish institutions dehumanized Native Americans by taking away their religious beliefs, by forcing them to work against their will. This was one of the first and many things that the Spaniard took from the Native American. Religion was the Spaniard wanted to cast down there beliefs and traditions by conversion was one of the step that the Spaniard took over the Indians, by forcing them to convert to Catholicism. Cortez wanted the native to have them to move on from their god and idols, forbear from human sacrificing, and indigenous churches. So some of the Spaniard thought if they converted many Native American that they were saving their souls but after they converted some natives they were stop by their persist. Even though the persist was also doing the same thing but in his intention was something different their where on a mission to god. That natives won’t die with sins, so they can be welcome to heaven. Although some of persist have slaves as well but there weren’t that cruel to the native, but it was still wrong. (Meyer, Sherman, Deeds, 142). The other step that the Spaniard did was to conquer the Indians lands and by forcing them to do physical labor. They mistreated them physically by over working them, nearly dead. Exchange their lands to keep what left of them self there souls. The Spaniard would make the Indians to work on mining, ranching, silver, building project, so they can make money. The Spaniards needed the Indians to work on different properties so the Spaniards have goods to trade so they can have more power. (Fray, 108). The Spaniard conquer all of the Indians lands and by using their lands so can make profits.
