Statistics say there is a spectrum people land on in crisis situations. This is called 10/80/10. This means that there are people that made it, could have made it. Unavoidable casualties. There are many important factors in people's chances of survival, mental and emotional strength, which are what some consider to be the most important.
More important factors increase people's chances of survival, this is shown in the story “Unbroken” by Laura Hellenbrand.
