Lavoisier’s extensive studies revolutionized chemistry and paved the way for aspiring scientists of future generations, which granted him the title of the father of modern chemistry. Within his years of dedication to science he was able to break down elements to invent a system to name chemical compounds, determine that water was classified as a compound rather than an element, and compile his discoveries into a book, called the Elementary Treatise of Chemistry, which is now referred to as the first chemistry textbook (New World Encyclopedia). The most significant accomplishment was it disproving the phlogiston theory, in return establishing the law of conservation of mass. Lavoisier referred to the phlogiston theory, proposed by Georg Ernst
