I was originally introduced to the article by Lawrence Otis Graham on the first week of class. The article is titled “I taught my black kids that their elite upbringing would protect them from discrimination. I was wrong.” This article was very significant because it gave me a foundation for the topics covered in my class, Writing, Literacy, and Discourse and helped me become a self-reflective writer. Grahams article is about his life, his family and a racist incident that involved his son.
