The stage consisted of a white backdrop with a white floor. the only prop in the room was a fiber mat. throughout the play a chair or stool would be brought into the room for one of the four characters. other than this the room was completely bare. Slowly, Wells begins to describe his holding in this room where he is trapped. Being blindfolded and handcuffed Wells can do little during his time in captivity. He begins to describe how if it appears that his blindfold had been removed and reapplied he would be beaten, even if it had not. Wells goes on to describe how his captors would beat him for no reasons at times as if they were entertained by his torment. Is this point where the scene changes and we are first introduced to Lainie Wells, the wife Michael Wells. Sitting alone in her room, Lainie is approached by her husband's caseworker, Ellen Van Oss. Elen is part of the State Department and has been assigned to Michael’s case. due to this and her close proximity to Lainie it was decided by the State Department that Ellen should visit Lainie once a week in order to check up on her, keep her informed on her husband's situation, and direct her the way the government deems most acceptable. It is here where we are first introduced to the hostility shown by Lainie towards Ellen and the State Department, believing that they are not using their full ability to return her husband to her. The reporter, Walker Harris, introduces himself and implores Lainie to share her story to the world, through his news company of course. slowly befriending her, Walker begins to construct an article about Lainie without her consent or knowledge. when Ellen discovers that Lainie has been talking with this reporter she immediately attempts to shut the budding friendship down, quickly realizing the implications of such a story looking and how it might reflect on the State Department. After Lainie’s scolding by Ellen the scene changes to Michael in his room. he begins on a insane rant on how he has lost count of days but believing that he has been captured for over a year. obviously descending into insanity he goes on to complain about how little he can bathe and the unfortunate conditions he has to endure. from this point the scene moves back to Lainie and Walker, the reporter. At this point Walker has finished his article on Lainie without her knowledge. Just before he arrives Ellen informs Lainie of the article during one of her routine visits.As Ellen leaves Walker arives to speek with Lainie about a teleivistion apperance. As he enters the room Lainie confronts Walker about the article and forces him to admit
