In 1973, legendary basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian became the head coach of the UNLV Men’s Basketball team and turned around a bad program in three years to a national semi-finalist team. The NCAA conducted an investigation after the surprising sudden success under Tarkanian. The NCAA found 38 violations, 10 specifically involving Tarkanian. UNLV suspended Tarkanian, so he sued the NCAA stating his fourteenth amendment right was violated. The Nevada State Courts ruled in Tarkanian favor granted him to be able to resume his head coach duties. The NCAA appealed and the case was taken to the Supreme Court.
