Yes, all drugs should be made available to medical doctors to offer as treatment after extensive study and review of the drug (assuming it is shown to have effective benefit, and the pros outweigh any negative side effects).

Canada has made prescription heroin available to doctors and that hasn't led to their country falling apart. Medical marijuana might be a much safer pain-relieving alternative than the traditionally-prescribed opioids causing our major opioid crisis. Drugs like LSD are being researched as potential treatment options for disorders like PTSD. Honestly, it's interesting to look at the current way some of these drugs are labeled (Schedule 1, no medicinal purposes) and wonder the true reasons for how they got labeled as such.

I say that as someone who has never used drugs currently categorized as illicit, nor do I have any desire to use them. The reality is, the "war on drugs" has massively failed. For many, being thrown in jail is far more dangerous to their health and quality of life than any drug they were using, and research continues to show how ineffective jail is (for public safety, financial strains, treating addiction, and more). An extensive case exists for legalizing all drugs, which is not the ultimate point of this post. Many problems we see today though are directly caused by the illicit status of drugs and this would be resolved by legalizing them. Doing so would reduce much of the stigma surrounding them and encourage legislators and researchers to more pro-actively study potential medicinal
