He’s been there for a while but he’s different than anybody else there. He’s black, and with the fact that he’s black he uses that as a defense mechanism. “Guys don't come into a colored man's room very much." When Crooks and Lennie first began talking , Lennie tried to go into his room and Crooks used his skin color as an excuse of not letting him in, and not being so open towards everybody. Eventually Lennie was let in the room, and they began to talk. At this moment crooks began to see what kind of person Lennie was, he believed Lennie was a caring person. “ A guy needs somebody to be near him…. They all believe that he’s caring and warmhearted, but something that is also being shown is how lonely these characters are. They all have a way of trying to isolate themselves, but when it comes to Lennie they open up and in a way rely on him to make the world or even their lives in general a little less lonely. A continuous theme is shown through out they all need someone in their life. With all the isolation comes discomfort and heart ache, and when that pain isn’t being shared it becomes overwhelming. “ A guy needs somebody to be near him…. A guy goes nuts if he ain’t got
